This is a short autobiography, that will be updated from time to time. I'll try to keep it to just the important shit.
My name is Sean Clauretie, but sometimes I go by Sean Clarity. I began my career
in art at the tender age of 6 when I got my first rejection letter
from Hasbro for trying to submit designs for G.I. Joes. Since then,
I have gotten my hands dirty in everything from comic books to
motion graphics.
In 1996 my good friend Mike Pizzo co-founded HipHopSite.com, and
I was quickly brought into projects as a designer, and ultimately
became the art director. This lead to many wonderful opportunities
to work with musicians and labels like Rjd2, MF DOOM, Apathy, The
Demigodz, Rhymesayers Ent., Hangar 18, Splash, The Chapter, Glue,
Cage and Planet Asia, as well as establishing myself as an Artist.
For a three year stint, I took a break from hip hop to attend the
Joe Kubert School in New Jersey, One of the best decisions of my
life, I found myself surrounded by talented artist and
opportunities, such as doing background art in X-men comics, or
technical art in PS Magazine. After graduating I worked on several
projects for Image Comics before finding myself submersed once again
in full time hip hop work.
In 2005 I was hired by Movingsun Studios, and became Lead Print
Designer, before ultimately shifting to the Interactive department to
take on motion and design work. In my spare time, I started
painting again, and through a chance encounter, was asked to
participate in Gallery 1988's "i am 8-bit" show. I was unaware
that the Ecitebike piece I created would become the signature piece
for the show, and found its way onto CNN, Wired, Attack of The Show,
Nintendo Power, FHM, BPM, and the grand daddy of all design
magazines, ID.
Later that year, I set out to do my own show and "It's About
Time" was set in motion, a nod to the fact that I was becoming
known almost everywhere but my hometown. My first show was a
success, and it sold out within two weeks, finally letting the fastest growing city in America, know who I was.
Six months later, I dropped my second show on the Art Bar, I Hate Cowboy Art. The idea came about from a friend who was working on her Masters in English, and was reading all this terrible Cowboy Poetry. I realized, Cowboy Art was the same way, and set out to do some Hollywood Cowboy Art. Again the show sold out, and I kept my streak alive, of selling every painting I hung.
At the beginning of 2007, I left Movingsun to join several of my former coworkers at N9NE Group, one of the premier nightlife entertainment companies in Las Vegas. I am now doing design, motion, and illustration work for some of the hottest properties in the industry; Ghostbar, Rain, Moon, Playboy Club, Pool at the Palms, Nove Italiano and 9 Steakhouse.
